Review articles summarize and analyze a number of original studies on a certain topic. No original research is presented, however they do attempt to review everything on a topic and provide a current review of where the research stands.  The cited references can be good sources for original research on a topic .  In many databases, you can limit your search to review articles - see the example below in ScienceDirect:
