Group Activities

You have a group project on video games and children.  What are the pros and cons of children's use of video games?  

1. Brainstorming
  • Work in pairs at your table to generate keywords that exemplify the pros and/or cons - Your ideas can be in the form of questions or statements 
  • Use the whiteboard to document your keywords and look for categories and/or relationships between them
  • Discuss the results and select a research topic/focus for the group 
2. Searching a Database
  • Group Leader: Keeps track of time
  • Searcher: Uses the wireless keyboard to search assigned database
  • Scribe: Uses the laptop and clicks on this link to access the response form

Activity Resources

Searching Argos will find different types of library materials  as it integrates many library resources into one interface.

ScienceDirect provides full-text articles and books in science, math, education, and communications. ScienceDirect searches content published by Elsevier, including over 2,000 academic journals.

This is a great tool for finding the psychology literature from 1887 to present which includes medicine, psychiatry, nursing, sociology, education, pharmacology, physiology, linguistics, anthropology, business, and law.

CQ Researcher
An excellent resource when begining research on a current topic. It covers the most current and controversial issues of the day with complete summaries, insight into all sides of the issues, bibliographies and more. 

A statistics portal that provides data on over 80,000 topics from more than 10,000 different sources.  The content is purely aggregated statistics, geared towards business and marketing statistical needs, with a focus on current awareness.  Easy-to-use infographics and tables are available for download as images to insert into presentations.
