A statistics portal that provides data on over 80,000 topics from more than 10,000 different sources.  The content is purely aggregated statistics, geared towards business and marketing statistical needs, with a focus on current awareness.  Easy-to-use infographics and tables are available for download as images to insert into presentations.

American FactFinder
  • Try the "Community Facts" quick search for a quick snapshot of information
  • Try the "Guided Search" and select: I'm looking for information about people (age, sex, income, poverty, education, ...). This is where you will find disability data.
    • Try this tool and compare data on Ithaca, New York with your home town.
Kaiser State Health Facts
  • Provides free, up-to-date, and easy-to-use health data. 
  • State Health Facts is comprised of more than 800 health indicators and provides users with the ability to map, rank, trend, and download data.
  • Health Status -- Includes data on disability

Disability Statistics

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
Disability and Health Data System: Very data heavy.
  • Maps and Data Tables: So much information!
  • State Profiles: Can drill down to disability status at the state level. There are all sorts of different topics.
  • Methods: Gives a nice overview and definitions of their site.

Disability and Health: TONS of great and easy to use information. Very consumer health-y.  
  • Overview -- Information on impairments, activity limitations, and participation restrictions along with some information on specific disabilities.
  • Articles & Key Findings -- An excellent list of articles that focus on disability.

National Health Interview Survey: The data from this report is quite old (1994/95), but it might be interesting to look at their data collection tool along with highlights of persons using assistive technologies.

Disabilities & Functioning (Adult): This page provides a nice snapshot of "fast facts" along with the source of information which is usually a detailed PDF.

https://www.disability.gov: This is a great consumer health website that provides information on health, employment, housing etc. services that are available.
